1. The man in the brown suit.

| Receptionist | Which man? |
| Francis | The man in the brown suit. |
| Receptionist | The thin one? The tall, thin man? Is that him? |
| Francis | No. Not the tall, thin man. That's not him. That's Mr. Jones. Look! He's wearing a brown suit, and a hat. And he's carrying a parcel. Who is he? |
| Receptionist | The man with the parcel? I don't know. He isn't staying at the hotel. It's all right. He's coming this way. |
2. Perhaps she is wearing a green skirt and an orange blouse.
| Receptionist | Good morning, sir. Can I help you? |
| Mr. Turner | My name is Turner. I'm looking for a friend. Her name is Kay. |
| Francis | Is Kay her first name or her surname? |
| Mr. Turner | It's her surname. Her full name is G. Kay. |
| Francis | Miss Kay or Mrs. Kay? |
| Mr. Turner | Mrs. Kay. She's staying at your hotel. Room 26. |
| Francis | Good. I'll call Mrs. Kay for you. |
| Receptionist | Mrs. Kay isn't in her room, sir. |
| Francis | Perhaps she's in the bar. |
| Mr. Turner | I don't think so. She never goes into bars. |
| Francis | Is she waiting for you? |
| Mr. Turner | I don't know, but I think so. |
| Francis | What does she look like? Is she short or tall? |
| Mr. Turner | She's quite tall and she's got dark hair. And I think she's carrying a big handbag. |
| Francis | A big handbag? |
| Mr. Turner | I think so. |
| Francis | Is she wearing a hat? |
| Mr. Turner | A hat? I don't think so. She doesn't like hats. |
| Francis | Ah! Is she wearing a green skirt and an orange blouse? |
| Mr. Turner | I don't know. Perhaps she is. Perhaps she is wearing a green skirt and an orange blouse. |
| Francis | Is she carrying a big handbag? |
| Mr. Turner | I think so. |
| Francis | Is she wearing a hat? |
| Mr. Turner | I don't think so. |
| Francis | Is that Mrs. Kay over there? Is that her? |
| Mr. Turner | Oh, yes. That's her. |
3. Jean's hair is longer than that.
| Young Man | Can you help me, please? I'm looking for my girlfriend. |
| Francis | What does she look like? |
| Young Man | She's got long fair hair, and she's wearing a short skirt. |
| Francis | Is she tall? |
| Young Man | Quite tall. She's about one metre seventy centimetres. |
| Francis | That's about five foot seven. |
| Young Man | And she's about twenty-five years old. |

| Girl | Yes. He's thirty-two, and he's got short dark hair. |
| Attendant | How tall is he? |
| Girl | Oh, about one metre eighty-three centimetres. |
| Attendant | That's about six foot. |
